Translating and Framing
Practices of Medial Transformations
Transmissions between different media constitute a central strategy of the arts, of popular culture, and the media industry as well as an important research topic in media studies. Making use of these various approaches, the interdisciplinary research group focusses on questions of medial transformations from a praxeological perspective that has so far been mostly overlooked, for instance, by taking into account processes of perception and appropriation, which will be described by the central theoretical concepts of ‘translating’ and ‘framing’. The aim is to gauge the scope of existing translation and framing theories for an expanded media studies, combining research on the arts, media and cultural studies, as well as the social sciences. In addition, these models will be made available for further research in the fields of media theory and media aesthetics.
The research group consists of seven research projects led by scholars of the University of Hamburg (UHH) and the University of Fine Arts of Hamburg (HfbK).
