Centre for Performance Studies - Background

Offered since the winter term of 2005/06, the Master of Arts in Performance Studies is an interdisciplinary programme jointly overseen by the School of Education, Psychology and Human Movement and the School of Humanities.

The course offerings centre around dance and movement studies, theatre research and theatre pedagogy. Interdisciplinary collaboration at the University of Hamburg, local, national and international partnerships with theatres, and the involvement of international artists as lecturers, mentors and guest professors have made it possible to offer a diverse and flexible modular course of study.

The Performance Studies Programme is the only one of its kind in Europe combining cultural and social scientific studies with a practical artistic and pedagogical orientation.
