Centre for Performance Studies
The Centre for Performance Studies is jointly run by members of three departments and specific research areas at the University of Hamburg:
– Human Movement (Culture, Media and Society)
– Education (Theatre Pedagogy and Acting)
– Language, Literature and Media (Theatre Research).
The Centre’s mission is to explore theory and practice, art and knowledge, and body-oriented performance art and related media – i.e. the theory and artistic practice of performance, theatre, dance and movement – via academic and artistic research in cooperation with members of non-University organisations (theatre managers and dramaturges of various theatres) and independent directors, choreographers, performers and dancers.
The Centre for Performance Studies is responsible for the planning, implementation and development of the post-graduate Performance Studies programme offered by the School of Education, Psychology and Movement Studies and the School of Humanities.
The Centre for Performance Studies promotes and supports interdisciplinary and international research projects, and provides both a platform for the promotion of younger academics and artists and a discussion forum for individual research projects.
